SUSSEX Life celebrated 50 years in print with a lunch on June 16 – Sussex Day – at Brighton’s famous Grand Hotel, attended by the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff of East Sussex, the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, and a number of readers and advertisers.

Tim Thurston, Archant’s commercial director of Lifestyle, County and France Magazines, welcomed guests and thanked production co-ordinator Kerry Greenfield for her 20 years’ of service, before editor Jenny Mark-Bell described how the magazine had evolved over the years.

Jenny said: “I have spent months closeted in the basement with archive copies of the magazine, and I have been so impressed and touched by the wealth of talent and endeavour recorded in those thousands of pages. These are extraordinary people whose accomplishments are there in black and white 50, 40, 30 years later.

It is a pleasure and a privilege to celebrate these events and milestones with our readers, to pull together some of the threads that make up the rich tapestry of life in Sussex.

Tim Thurston said: “The guest list at the Sussex Life 50th party demonstrated the profile and gravitas of the publication.

Sussex Life has a talented and committed team that produce a beautiful magazine each month. In its first 50 years Sussex Life has had much to celebrate in this lovely county and we look forward to the next 50 years.”

High Sheriff of East Sussex, Juliet Smith, congratulated the team, saying: “You are justly proud of all the magazine has achieved over the years and how it is bucking the trend by proving that magazines of quality are still in demand. I am proud to be associated with Sussex Life and look forward to my role as one of the judges for your awards later in the year.
