Archant’s Mustard TV is one year old and to celebrate it has announced the launch of the Mustard TV Celebration Fund on its birthday, March 24.

The Fund will support three of the region’s outstanding charities, and provide a funding pot open to the county’s community groups and good causes.

The fundraising drive over the next year will benefit the cancer charity Big C, Leeway, which supports victims of domestic abuse, and Nelson’s Journey, which works with bereaved children. And from bake sales to bungee jumps, Mustard TV wants viewers to get involved in raising cash.

The fund has been launched to celebrate the first year of Mustard TV broadcasting on Freeview Channel 8.

Fiona Ryder, managing director of Mustard TV, said: “We’re so excited to launch the Mustard TV Celebration Fund. It’s brilliant to be working with such a wonderful group of charities, all of which work tirelessly for the people of Norfolk.

“We are also launching our own Mustard TV Community Fund, which will help to support the smaller charities and community groups.”

A full year of fundraising activities has been planned, all with the aim of benefiting the people of Norwich and Norfolk.

“We are a TV station made by the people and for the people of Norwich so it seemed absolutely right to be doing something of a charitable nature,” said Fiona.

“It’s been an amazing first year and we’re looking forward to supporting the communities that support us.”

The Mustard TV Community Fund, administered by the Norfolk Community Foundation, will provide grants to smaller charities and community groups doing great work in Norfolk and north Suffolk. Those eligible for up to £1,000 could include youth clubs, arts and crafts groups, mental health support, older people’s lunch clubs, toddler groups and those working to tackle social isolation or disadvantage.

Anna Douglas, the foundation’s development and marketing manager, said: “A lot of smaller groups or grassroots voluntary organisations need only a modest amount to create an impact in their local area.

“With local and national funding cuts, £1,000 can make quite a difference: it can be the difference between continuing to operate or not.”

All the money raised will be split equally between the three named charities and the Mustard TV Community Fund. Over the coming year, Mustard TV will be featuring the best of your fundraising activities, and reporting on how the money raised is improving the lives of people across Norwich, Norfolk and north Suffolk.
